Visual Patterns and Problem Solving

Algebraic reasoning is important throughout all grade levels. Incorporating visual patterns into the curriculum helps maintain and sharpen this critical thinking skill. We'll work through some challenging tasks that will foster the 8 mathematical practices. We'll also look at ways to give regular textbook problems more bang for their buck.

Fawn Nguyen teaches math at Mesa Union Junior High in southern California. She started out as a science teacher for 14 years and has been teaching math for the last 12 years.
